Under the direct supervisor of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the planning for the delivery of nursing services in response to community needs, and the development and implementation of nursing programs in all MVNHC locations. In addition, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the daily coordination of all operational activities on the clinical units, the coordination of the OSHA/Infection Prevention and Control Program, and all accreditation, credentialling, and competency requirements. The Director of Nursing will also possess nursing experience that includes knowledge of the history and trends of nursing, cultural diversity, legal and ethical responsibilities, and various nursing practice responsibilities including leadership and management.

Essential Duties:

  • Directing all nurses, medical assistants, clinical, and other staff.
  • Directly managing and taking responsibility for providing nursing care to patients.
  • Works directly with the nursing staff and patients to manage and oversee the department from the ground level.
  • Informing all staff of any new procedure or policy implementations introduced by the Health Center’s administration.
  • Planning, coordinating, and monitoring nursing activities at all Health Center sites.
  • Identifying the learning needs of nurses and nursing personnel and developing of ongoing in-service education programs to meet those needs.
  • Supervising the clinical competence and evaluating the performance of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Medical Assistants, at the Health Center’s sites, to assure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Ensuring that work standards, legal procedures, and ethical practices regarding nursing are always adhered to.
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training nurses, and other non-licensed nursing personnel.
  • Updating and keeping the Nursing Policies and Procedures Manual current.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements, including, but not limited to, The Joint Commission, HRSA, PCMH, NYSDOH, OSHA, and WCDOH.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Women’s Services and the heads of Clinical Services in fulfillment of the above-mentioned responsibilities.
  • Act as Coordinator of the Infection Prevention and Control Program
  • Participate as a member of the administrative team in strategic planning and strategies for service delivery and process improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Nurse
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing is desirable.
  • A minimum of five years experience in Nursing Supervision, including coordinating the work of the nursing team, performance evaluation, guidance in developing nursing care plans, and in-service education.
  • Experience in program planning and project management.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in the conduct of duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and educate all levels of nursing personnel.
  • Competence in counseling and educating patients and their families.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships among all categories of personnel.
