Westchester Community Health Center wants to make your birthing journey smoother, safer, beautiful, and memorable. We offer birthing doula services as part of your prenatal care, starting around 24 weeks into your pregnancy.

What is a birthing doula?

A birthing doula is a trained professional who serves as your coach during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. They give you continuous non-medical physical, emotional, and informational support. Doulas can help you at home or in healthcare settings during pregnancy, labor, and after birth. Our birthing doula services are customized to meet your unique needs.

What can our birthing doula do for you?

Our healthcare team will meet with you to see what you need and if you qualify for doula services. Here are some ways your doula can help you:

  • Regularly visit you in your home or virtually check in to make sure you and your family are ready for your new baby
  • Go with you to prenatal appointments, labor, and postpartum visits
  • Teach you about your birth options and how to speak up for what you want
  • Give you emotional support and encouragement throughout your pregnancy and birth
  • Help you talk to your healthcare providers about any concerns you might have
  • Prepare Dad or your partner about the childbirth experience and how to be supportive
  • Offer breastfeeding education and connect you to certified lactation counselors
  • Assist with newborn care and help you recover physically and emotionally after birth
