We are always looking for individuals who can donate their time and talents to helping people and making a difference in the lives of others. Volunteering can be an opportunity to learn new skills, meet similar-minded people, or explore a healthcare career. Regardless of their initial motivation, individuals often find that they enrich their own lives in ways that they had never expected by giving service to others.
Our volunteers are of all ages and come from all walks of life. They can be men, women, students, adults, seniors, retired professionals, employed workers, and multilingual and multicultural individuals. Though diverse, all share a common denominator of being caring, sensitive, enthusiastic, and disciplined.
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about opportunities at Westchester Community Health Center (WCHC).
What can I do as a volunteer?
No matter what your preferences and skills are, there are many opportunities at each Center location. Here is a sample of activities that you could be a part of:
Are there any requirements for being a volunteer?
Time Commitment – Volunteers are asked to commit to a set number of hours weekly and a minimum length of service to support the continuity of services for patients. Specific commitment requirements vary among departments and programs, but the range is from three to six hours per week for a period of three to six months.
Training – Some programs require special training. Training is provided free of charge and often gives new skills that are valuable in their professional life.
Medical Requirements – WCHC has medical requirements that individuals must meet before they begin their activities. As with most facilities, we require that have received a physical exam within the previous 12 months, have a PPD test for tuberculosis, and immunization for tetanus, chickenpox, measles, mumps, rubella, and COVID-19.
